Chatbot vs AI sales agent: when a chatbot is enough, and when it isn't.
Short answer first. A chatbot answers questions. An AI sales agent takes the conversation somewhere: it qualifies, handles objections and gets the customer to pay or book. If your customers only need answers, a chatbot is enough, and it costs less. If they write to you to buy, a chatbot leaves the hardest part of the sale undone. Below: the same customer message handled by each, side by side, what each costs, and how to choose. Including when the answer isn't us.
Chatbot vs AI agent: the plain definitions.
A chatbot is software that talks with people through text or voice. Older ones follow fixed rules and scripted flows, and stall when a question goes off script. Newer AI chatbots use large language models, so they understand far more ways of asking the same thing. Either way, the job is the same: answer the question in front of them.
An AI agent is a system that performs tasks on its own, toward a goal, using the tools it's given. It doesn't stop at the answer. It plans the next step and takes it: looks something up, fills in a form, sends a link, updates a record.
An AI sales agent is an AI agent whose goal is a sale. Rexor Closer is one, built for a single job: take the people who write to your business from their first question to the payment, then look after them once they've paid. We call it an AI closer.
A word on “AI sales agent.”
Search for “AI sales agent” and much of what comes up is outbound: tools that find leads, write cold emails and message people who never asked. That's a different job, with different rules.
Rexor Closer works the other way around. It only talks to people who write to you first, on your website chat, WhatsApp, Telegram, email or its own chat link. No lists, no cold outreach. It's the salesperson behind your counter, not the one on the phone list.
The same message, handled twice.
Say you run a wedding venue. A couple writes to your website chat on a Tuesday night. Both tools below have read your website and know your prices.
A good AI chatbot
9:05 PM
Hi! Do you have a Saturday in June for about 120 guests? What's the price?
9:05 PM
Hi! Saturdays from May to October start at $9,800 for up to 150 guests, with tables, chairs and the bridal suite included. To check availability, please fill out our inquiry form and our team will get back to you.1
Inquiry form
- 1A correct answer, from the website. Then the next step goes to a form, and the couple waits.
9:07 PM
Hmm, that's more than we hoped.
9:07 PM
I understand! Let me know if you have any other questions.2
- 2The objection ends the conversation. The couple closes the tab.

Hi! Do you have a Saturday in June for about 120 guests? What's the price?
9:05 PM
Hi, I'm Bramblecote Barn's AI sales agent. Saturdays from May to October start at $9,800 for up to 150 guests, with tables, chairs and the bridal suite included.3 The team confirms dates at the tour. Is a Saturday a must, or is the month what matters most?4
- 3The same correct answer.
- 4Then a question that moves the sale: it learns what the couple really needs. It never guesses availability.
9:07 PM
Hmm, that's more than we hoped. June matters more than Saturday.
9:08 PM
That's useful.5 Fridays and Sundays in June start at $7,400, same barn, same package. And setup and teardown are included, so there's no separate rental bill. Would you like to see the barn before you decide?
- 5It treats the budget as information, not as a no, and answers with the venue's own options. No invented discount.
9:09 PM
Yes! A Sunday could work.

Same message. Same facts. One ends on “let me know.” The other ends with a tour on the calendar.

| Question | Chatbot | AI agent (general) | Rexor Closer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Its job | Answer the question | Complete a task you define | Sell, from first question to payment |
| A question | Answers it | Answers it, then acts on it | Answers it, then asks the question that moves the sale |
| “It's too expensive” | Says it understands | Depends how it was built | Looks for the real objection and answers it with your arguments |
| Photos, videos | If you wire them in | If you build it | From your catalog, picked for the moment |
| The next step | A link or a form | Depends how it was built | Your payment or booking link, then the payment confirmed |
| A quiet customer | Nothing | If you build a follow-up | One follow-up, 24 hours later, by email or Telegram |
| After the sale | Rarely | If you build it | Order questions, delivery, complaints; your team gets what needs a decision |
| Who builds it | You | You, or a developer | We do, and you approve every fact |
| Gets better | When you rewrite it | When you rebuild it | Every week: it writes new answers, you approve them |
| Phone calls | Some tools | Some tools | No. It sells in writing |
When a chatbot is enough.
A chatbot is the right tool, and the cheaper one, when:
- People write for answers, not to buy. Opening hours, order tracking, return policy, “do you ship to Canada?”
- The answers rarely change, and you or someone on your team has time to write them, test them and keep them current.
- There's no sale in the chat. Your buyers buy on your online store without help, or the sale happens on the phone or in person.
- Your budget is under $100 a month. Many self-serve chatbot tools start in that range.
In those cases, don't pay for a closer. Buy a good chatbot tool and spend an afternoon writing its answers.
When an AI sales agent is worth it.
An AI sales agent earns its price when the conversation is the sale:
- Your customers ask before they buy. Price, size, delivery, financing, “is it worth it?” The answer decides the sale.
- Your prices are high enough that one sale pays for a month. A pool, a remodel, a wedding, a boat, a coaching program, a piece of furniture.
- Inquiries come in when nobody's there. Nights, weekends, or while your team is busy with the customer in front of them.
- You hear the same objections every week, and you know the answers that work.
- You'd rather not build and babysit a bot. You want it built, run and improved for you.
What each costs.
Self-serve chatbot tools publish entry prices of about $20 to $190 a month (read on October 17, 2026), plus your time to build them, feed them and fix them. Some charge per seat or per conversation on top. The prices, line by line, with sources.
Other companies also set up AI agents for you. The five offers we read publish entry prices from $297 to $500 a month, with setup fees from $0 to $1,497. Before you choose, check which channels are included, who writes and approves the answers, and who keeps them up to date.

Compare it yourself. Bring your toughest objection.
The closer below sells Rexor Closer, live, with our real prices and limits. Ask it the hard questions: why it costs more than a chatbot, what it won't do, and when a chatbot suits you better.
Never share card details in a chat. Payments only go through a secure checkout link.
Chatbot or AI sales agent: your questions.
Anything else: ask the closer above, any time, or write to contact@rexorgroup.com.
Is an AI sales agent just a chatbot with a better name?
No. Both chat. A chatbot's job ends when the question is answered. An AI sales agent's job ends when the customer has paid or booked, or said a clear no.
Can I turn my chatbot into an AI sales agent?
Partly. You can write sales answers into it. What's hard to add: digging for the real objection, picking the right photo for the moment, sending the payment link at the right time, confirming the payment and staying on after the sale. That's the job Rexor Closer was built for.
Is Rexor Closer an AI agent?
Yes, an AI agent built for one goal: the sale. It acts inside the conversation: it sends your photos, videos, payment and booking links, confirms payments, alerts your team and follows up once.
Does it make things up?
It only says what you approved. Like any AI, it can make a mistake, so every reply passes automatic checks and a review by another AI before it goes out. When it doesn't know, it says so, and the question lands in your Monday report.
Will my customers know it's an AI?
Yes. It says so when the conversation starts, and again whenever someone asks.
Can I use both?
Yes, but most businesses won't need to. Rexor Closer also answers the everyday questions, and it handles after-sales. If you already have a support chatbot you like, keep it for support and put the closer where buyers write.
A chatbot answers. Rexor closes.
Tell the closer what you sell, then tell it no. Then decide.
